Gertrude Margaret Eadie of Hampton Bays Dies March 11

Gertrude Margaret Eadie, nee Matz, of Hampton Bays died on March 11. She was 96.

She was born on September 9, 1927, in Altoona, Pennsylvania. She grew up in Queens, where she met her husband, Andrew, the love of her life.

They moved to Hampton Bays, where they were charter members of Christ Our Saviour Lutheran Church.

She was employed and retired from the Suffolk County Department of Finance and Taxation, at which she worked for 23 years.

She relocated to Goose Creek, South Carolina, in 2020 to live with her daughter, Donna and son-in-law Roy, and to be close to her daughter, Linda, of Summerville, South Carolina. She missed her many friends, nieces and nephews that she left behind in Hampton Bays, and did her best to stay in touch, her family said.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Catherine Nappi and son-in-law Stephen Nappi; grandsons, Craig and Brian Nappi and Kevin and Ryan Grimm; son-in-law and devoted caretaker, Roy Jessup; two great-grandchildren, Keira and Kaden Nappi; and four step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years, Andrew Eadie Jr.; daughter, Donna Ann Jessup; grandson, Kevin Michael Burding; three sisters and four brothers.

She will be interred at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays.

Defeats Harborfields The East Hampton boys cross country team defeated Harborfields, 17-38, in its season opener on its home course on school grounds on September 9.
