Get Something Done

To My Republican neighbors: First and foremost, I would like to congratulate U.S. Senator Charles Schumer on his role as Senate majority leader. I am urging you and your colleagues to not be made fools of again.

As a lifelong Democrat, I have witnessed time and time again a Republican Party willing to trample over democracy. We have to look no further than to U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin, who has aligned himself with the darkest elements of the Republican Party.

The behavior of Senator Mitch McConnell clearly demonstrates his agenda, which is to control the Senate and everything that gets done in our country. His hypocrisy could not be more blatant than in his egregious handling of both Merrick Garland and Amy Coney Barrett.

In addition, to his ongoing obstructionist behavior with respect to anything the Democrats propose, he is now calling for cooperation. Really! Every time the Democrats hand the Republicans an olive branch, they hit the Democrats over the head with a baseball bat.

It is time for the Democrats to stand up and pack the court with six new Supreme Court justices, end the filibuster, and make Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia states. The time is now for Democrats, who speak for the majority of Americans, about 7 million more votes, to fight for American values.

I urge my Republican detractors from whining about how this will destroy our democracy. I will remind them of January 6, when they raised their objections.

We have heard your complaining and yelling about Democrats long enough. It is time to get something done, and if that means without Republicans, so be it.
