Get To Know Me

I want to introduce myself to those in the hamlet of Hampton Bays who don’t know me. My name is

Eileen McPhelin, and I am running for the position of president of the Hampton Bays Civic Association.

As a member and then a board member, I have been asked by other members to run for the incoming board.

The vote takes place at the next membership meeting, on Monday, September 29, in the Hampton Bays Community Center.

I was a bit surprised when asked to run for the office of president, but then, after some thought and reflection, I realized I am not just qualified for this position but eager to take it on. I thought it would be helpful for those who have not yet met me that I would give some insight into who I am.

I have been a full-time resident of Hampton Bays for 44 years and have raised three children here. I have been involved in my community, through work or volunteering, in one way or another for 42 years. Yet I know many people still do not know me, so I asked those who know me, for five through 65 years of relationships, what characteristics they see in me for this position, and I want to share those with you.

This is how they described me: organized, empathetic, creative, conscientious, professional, calm under stress, keeps a clear view of the big picture, engages a team with positive motivation.

As I am humbled by what they think of me, I will add that I have witnessed reasons why I believe I need to take on this position.

The HBCA is a very important organization that works with the Southampton Town Council and the town employees to help them understand the needs of Hampton Bays and its residents. We have a good relationship, and I would like to continue in that manner. It is my hope that we can have many more residents join this vital organization, which is informative and addresses the residents’ concerns.

With hope for continual improvement in our world, starting in Hampton Bays, I invite you to come to our 7 p.m. meeting on September 29. All are welcome. If you are already a member, I hope you will vote for me and allow me to show you how this organization can improve.
