Glenn Robert Krouse of Westhampton died on June 12. He was 61.

Krouse was born on September 6, 1961, in Southampton to Janet and Robert Krouse.

He was a loving and caring person who touched many lives and will be deeply missed, his family said. “Rest in peace, Glenn. You will forever be remembered as a loving and caring person who touched many lives,” his family said.

Krouse was always a kid at heart and quite a prankster, his family said. He loved all animals, both domesticated and wild, and the backyard was his sanctuary for all wildlife.

He was an avid cook and took great pride in cooking for family and friends. Boating, clamming, crabbing, and hunting were his favorite activities outside.

Krouse worked for Asplundh Construction in Yaphank for 36 years. His job and coworkers were like family, and he cherished his extended family at IBEW Local 1049.

He is survived by his maternal aunt, Helen Palmer; his sister, Judy Glendenning and her husband, Craig Glendenning; his significant other, Brenda Williams; his goddaughter, Rachel Glendenning; and three nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Janet and Robert Krouse; his brothers, Harry S. Krouse and David S. Krouse; and his son, Stephen R. Krouse.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge (quoguewildliferefuge.org) in his memory.

Pity the poor horseshoe crab. It is, without question, a survivor almost beyond compare. Consider this: There are fossils of the creature dating back 445 million years. Dinosaurs arrived about 200 million to 250 million years ago — which means the time between us and dinosaurs is equal to the time between dinosaurs and the earliest horseshoe crabs. And they’re still here, nearly unchanged. But they finally may have met their match. The American horseshoe crab has “vulnerable” status, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
