Gloria Dillon Burdge Of Southampton Dies At 79

Gloria Dillon Burdge

Gloria Dillon Burdge, a resident of Southampton and Shelter Island for the past 25 years, died on November 3 at Stony Brook University Medical Center of heart failure after several months of illness. She was 79.

Born in Brooklyn, she was a graduate of the Berkely Institute and Southern Seminary. Later in life, she was a lyric soprano with the New York Choral Society. She sang her first recital at The Brooklyn Academy of Music at the age of 13 and was a member of several choruses during her career.

Ms. Burdge served as chairman of the board of trustees of the New York Choral Society from 2003 to 2005 and was a member for 10 years. She performed in several concerts yearly at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in Manhattan. She and the chorus also had the privilege of accompanying Luciano Pavarotti for rehearsals for the Grammy Awards; Peter, Paul and Mary for several concerts at Carnegie Hall; and Andrea Bocelli at the Statue of Liberty Concert. The chorus was also featured at the annual Richard Tucker Foundation Gala Benefit, among other appearances in the New York City area and abroad.

Ms. Burdge also had a home in Boca Grande, Florida.

She is survived by her husband, Richard M. Burdge of Southampton; three sons, Peter T. Burdge of Quogue, Christopher S. Burdge of Florida and Richard M. Burdge, Jr. of California; and nine grandchildren.

Services were private.
