Friends of a former Sag Harbor woman who recently died after a long struggle with lung cancer have launched a GoFundMe page to help her husband and daughter rebuild their lives.

Annijamila Qvist Jensen died on March 2 in West Palm Beach, Florida, where she had been living and receiving treatment.

“Annijamila was my dear friend. She was inspirational to many people with her positive spirit,” said Charlotte Raben, one of the sponsors of the GoFundMe page. “She never gave up fighting for her life, and I will continue to fight for Ava and Alberto to give them a break and a second chance of life with the GoFundMe page.”

When the couple lived in Sag Harbor, Qvist Jensen’s husband, Alberto Tatti, was maître d’ at Tutto Il Giorno restaurant, but he had to give up that job after his wife was diagnosed with cancer.

A native of Denmark, Qvist Jensen initially returned home but was unable to obtain the kind of treatment she needed. She was able to get approved for a clinical trial that was offered in Miami and moved to Florida.

Tatti landed a job as the manager of a restaurant there, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the opening. During the later stages of his wife’s illness, he served as the sole caregiver for his wife and young daughter, Ava, 8.

Raben said the family had subsisted on donations from an earlier GoFundMe campaign, but that they had incurred large medical bills during Qvist Jensen’s illness.

“She was much loved in the community of Sag Harbor, had loads of friends, and only left because of the cancer and needing treatment,” Raben said.

The GoFundMe page, “Anni has passed — help Ava and Alberto rebuild,” can be found at gofundme.com/f/help-ava-and-alberto-rebuild. As of Friday, March 10, a total of $18,000 of a $50,000 goal had been raised.

Wild Season

A theme sets up soon after the potatoes are planted. Not just a weather pattern but a problem pattern. Some years, it’s bearings … well, actually, it might always be bearings. They are the friction points that largely modernized farming equipment, and they see lots of grease to smooth their wear. But, besides bearings, it could be electrical issues, or hydraulic lines. This year, for us, it is tires. The first to go was a sidewall, midfield, on a tractor towing a spreader and hauling about 5 tons of lime. So there is weight on the hitch and the weight ... by Marilee Foster

Support Shelter

I am a volunteer at Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation, and I see the valuable work they do. The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, open-admission, no-kill shelter that relies on the generosity of donors to care for the homeless animals in our community. Last year alone, the shelter rescued and found homes for 768 dogs, cats, bunnies and a host of other animals. Southampton Town eliminated the shelter in 2010, and Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation was formed. We provide animals with housing, food, medical treatment, training and rehabilitation until their forever homes are found. Eighty percent of our ... by Staff Writer

Think Twice

Cyndi McNamara, after claiming she was “not opposed” to sand mine amortization, read a lengthy document into the record delineating what she claimed were procedural errors committed by the Southampton Town Board [“Southampton Town Board Adopts Sand Mine Amortization Law,” 27east.com, April 9]. If you were wondering why she went to such lengths, the answer is now clear. Just read the lawsuit recently filed by Sand Land against the town [“Sand Mines Sue Southampton Town Over Amortization Law,” 27east.com, May 7] — and remember her threats to all her fellow board members (on the record) at one of the first ... by Staff Writer
