On the last Saturday in October, in Southampton Village, I attended the annual Little Lucy’s Halloween Pet Parade at Agawam Park. This event drew hundreds of people to the park (and throughout the village), with their four-legged friends — all dressed up and vying for placement as star of the parade. There were prizes for costumes, live music and food trucks for the attendees to enjoy.
Little Lucy’s is the quintessential pet shop on Jobs Lane, and the proprietor, Patricia Volonnino-Hurley, puts this event on every year with help from volunteers. She works with other local businesses to donate prizes and participate. The proceeds from raffles and other contests went to the Suffolk County SPCA.
Little Lucy’s Halloween Pet Parade is a shining example of business acumen, ingenuity and community engagement — and I wanted to commend and thank Ms. Volonnino-Hurley for a fabulous day in Southampton Village.
