Gordon Engel Of East Quogue Dies August 3

Gordon Engel

Gordon Engel died at his home in East Quogue on August 3. He was 66.

Born in Brooklyn on November 9, 1945, to Ralph and Elizabeth Engle, he attended Smithtown Elementary School, Hauppauge High School and Stony Brook University.

From 1965 to 1969, he served in the U.S. Air Force in Albuquerque after basic training in Wichita Falls. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant and earned a Good Conduct medal. While stationed in New Mexico, he played short stop for the Air Force softball team.

After his military service, Mr. Engel worked as a court officer, retiring as a senior officer after 37 years of service.

Mr. Engel is survived by his wife, Theresa; two daughters, Nicole T. Engel of Manhattan, and Ashley R. Engel of East Quogue; a sister, Elizabeth Engel-Gray of Selden.

Arrangements for a funeral on August 8 were under the direction of DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery with military honors.

Southampton DWI Arrests for the Week of December 12

William Campos Lopez, 26, of Speonk was arrested on December 8, at 3:40 a.m., by Quogue Village Police charged him with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor. He was pulled over after being observed speeding and failing to maintain his lane on Montauk Highway, police said.
