Gillian Gordon, the inaugural executive director of the Sag Harbor Cinema, has tendered her resignation to the Sag Harbor Cinema Arts Center Board, which has accepted it with recognition for the passion and dedication she brought to her work on the Cinema’s behalf, according to a press release issued by the Cinema on Wednesday.
“The Covid-19 crisis has put my priorities into perspective. I felt that now is the right time for me to segue from administrative duties back to spending more time with my family and creative and educational pursuits,” said Ms. Gordon in a prepared statement.
The Sag Harbor Cinema was on the cusp of completing construction on the Main Street, Sag Harbor, three-screen facility just prior to the pandemic, which has halted work. According to the release issued by the Cinema, it had established “a solid financial position.”
“We look forward to opening our doors and launching our inclusive and exciting programming as soon as it is safe for our community to gather again,” said Cinema Chairperson April Gornik.
“Gillian will remain a valued part of our dedicated Sag Harbor Cinema community and the broader community of art and culture on the East End,” stated Cinema Board President John Alschuler. Artistic and Programming Director Giulia D’Agnolo Vallan will continue to lead the new institution and its staff forward while a search committee is formed in order to appoint a new Executive Director as a worthy successor to Ms. Gordon.
The Cinema, which had already been showing films with insightful talk-backs at various itinerant venues, will continue its programming online. The Board closed its statement thanking Ms. Gordon for “her dedicated service and bringing us to this strong launch point.”
