Happy Hanukkah to all my friends and neighbors of the Jewish faith. Enjoy your festival of lights!

Marcus Shams was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at the Boy Scout Troop 301 Eagle Court of Honor ceremony on November 28. In addition, he earned an American Legion Acknowledgment of Merit. Marcus was the post’s American Legion Boys State 2009 participant. Nice going, Marcus!

Congratulations to Julia King. She is a Hampton Bays High School senior who decided to pilot a different course each morning at the Eastern Suffolk BOCES Aviation Academy’s Aviation and Professional Pilot Training program. Julia made her first solo flight on Tuesday morning, December 1!

After many hours of ground and flying instruction, Julia was deemed ready by her instructors to handle all of the tasks to safety check and prepare her airplane for flight. She operated the plane on the ground prior to takeoff, took off on her own, flew a prescribed course, and landed by herself. Great flying, Julia!

Happy 13th birthday to Adam Boyer, with love from your family. Adam celebrates his special day on Sunday, December 13.

Darren Ottati will release a new CD on Thursday, December 10, called “Renditions.” The CD is a selection of standards recorded with his band over the past year. “Renditions” will be available for purchase on iTunes, cdbaby.com and at Gale’s Beauty Salon. Check it out!

My friend Ellen Naro is having a Holiday Jewelry Sale this Friday, December 11, and Saturday, December 12, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., upstreet at Fandango Boutique. Ellen designs and makes all of the pieces by hand and they are lovely and affordable. And while I’m on the subject of Fandango, all of the beautiful merchandise is on sale for 20 percent off through December 31.

And Cindy over at Erika’s In The Hamptons boutique is also offering a storewide Christmas sale with 20 percent off merchandise. The shop is located at 7 Ponquogue Avenue. Stop in and say hi.

The Compassionate Friends Twin Forks Chapter invites the community to participate in a worldwide community candle lighting on Sunday, December 13, at 7 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in East Quogue. Candles will be lit at 7 p.m. in remembrance of children who have died too soon. You can also post a message in the Remembrance Book, which will be available during the event at compassionatefriends.org. For more details about Compassionate Friends, call Mary Casey at 298-5043.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy and Commissioner Linda Mermelstein of the county’s Department of Health Services have announced that the county will be offering free H1N1 flu vaccines to Suffolk County residents. One clinic will be offered on Monday, December 14, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., at St. Rosalie’s Church. Appointments are not required but preferred. And the other clinic will be held in the Riverhead area on Wednesday, December 16. Call 787-2200 to make an appointment.

The Hampton Bays Eighth Grade Student Council members collected more than 350 items of food and $274 in donations at the second annual Harvest Games Class Competition and Food Drive.

The middle school students also competed for the Harvest Games by selling fresh apples and colored paper leaves and turned in food box tops to raise money. This year’s Harvest Games champs were members of the sixth grade class. The money and food were donated to St. Rosalie’s Food Pantry. Go Baymen (and women)!

Cheryl Curtis is proud to announce that her licensed group home daycare, called Charlie’s Little Angels, is not just a daycare center but a preschool as well. Her center follows the “Fireflies” curriculum where the children participate in a wide variety of stimulating, educational and entertaining activities centered around two themes that change monthly.

Cheryl strives to make this a home away from home for children. The care provided is nothing less than what she would want and expect for her own children. For more information, give Cheryl a call at 728-2106.

Do you know an amazing woman who lives and works in our community and deserves a makeover? Well, then nominate her for the “It’s A Girl’s Night Fashion Show.”

Winners will receive a business chic makeover from a local salon and a trendy new look from a local boutique. They will also receive a free overnight stay at the Southampton Inn, participate in the fashion show and have a blast at the after-party on January 30, 2010! To nominate someone, click on untappedability.com/gnnominations.php. For more details about the event, visit untappedability.com.
