Happy birthday to Rose Ceselka! Rose celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday, July 20. I hope that your special day was spent surrounded by friends and family. (Please make sure you read this week’s article about Rose in the news section!)Teach For America is pleased to announce that Stephanie Kozofsky has been accepted into its 2014 teaching corps. Teach For America (TFA) is a nonprofit organization that works to increase educational opportunities for low-income students.
A 2009 graduate of Hampton Bays High School, Stephanie will be heading off to teach in Chicago. According to my press release, Stephanie is excited and proud to be joining the Chicago TFA corps.
Stephanie says she feels blessed to have the opportunity to change the lives of students, noting that she will teach in the same way that she was instructed by so many of her teachers at Hampton Bays. She cannot thank everyone enough for their love and support. Good luck to you, Stephanie!
Kaity Arenz attained dean’s list status at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue, where she is enrolled in the child study program. Kaity is studying for certification in early childhood/childhood education and special education.
Last semester Kaity student taught in the Riverhead School District. This fall, she will go on to student teach special education students in the Eastport South Manor School District. Her very proud parents are Audrey and Bill Pasierb of Hampton Bays.
Toss a mortar board for Anthony Casciotta and Maya Himmelsbach! Both received their diplomas from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. And Zackery Kline graduated with his AOS degree in welding technology from the State University of New York College of Technology at Delhi. Nice going!
The Southampton Town Youth Bureau is having a “Rock’n the Park” event tomorrow night, Friday, July 25, starting at 8 p.m., at Red Creek Park, located at 102 Old Riverhead Road.
Come out and listen to live bands and skate—protective gear is mandatory. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase. Admission is free to all Southampton Town residents age 7 and older. For more information, give Caprice Crippen a call at (631) 702-2432.
The Hampton Bays Fire Department Carnival opens next week on Tuesday, July 29, and runs through Sunday, August 3, from 7 until 11 p.m. each day upstreet at the firehouse at 69 West Montauk Highway. Parade night is on Wednesday, July 30, at 7 p.m. And Bracelet Nights are being offered on Thursday and Sunday, where you pay one price and ride all night.
The Rick Derringer Band, LA Woman and Dub Steady will be performing an “All for the Bays” concert next Thursday, July 31, at 7 p.m., at the Ponquogue Beach pavilion. General admission is $20. VIP tickets are $200 each and include a meet and greet with the musicians, and food and drinks at Dockers on Dune Road in East Quogue.
For tickets, log on at www.evenbrite.com and search for “All for the Bays.” In case of rain, the concert will be held at the Boardy Barn on Montauk Highway. All proceeds benefit the Southampton Town Trustee Bay Replenishment Fund.
The Hampton Bays High School Class of 1974 is having its 40th reunion next Saturday, August 2, from 7 until 11 p.m., at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 31 East Montauk Highway.
The cost is $70 per person and that includes appetizers, a buffet dinner and dessert catered by the Villa Paul Restaurant. A cash bar will be available. Class members who would like to attend are asked to call Marjorie (Downs) Stellmann at (631) 276-3153.

Thursday, July 24: Sign up for Hampton Bays Summer Fun Playground Program for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade, 8 to 10 a.m., Red Creek Park, 102 Old Riverhead Road. The program runs from Monday, July 28, through Friday, August 22. Fees are as follows: $50 per child or $125 for a family of three. Registration must be filled out by a parent or guardian, and proof of kindergarten completion or the child’s birth certificate is required. Questions? Monday, July 28: Hampton Bays Civic Association meeting, 7 p.m., at the Southampton Town Community Center, 25 Ponquogue Avenue. The Hampton Bays Village Exploratory Committee will speak about its findings for an independent Hampton Bays. Additionally, scholarship winner Amanda Kenny will read her winning essay and be presented with a $1,000 check. All are welcome.
Tuesday, July 29: The next Tuesdays on the Go trip is to the Splish Splash Water Park in Calverton. Admission is $30. The bus stops at Hampton Bays High School at 9:20 a.m. and at the Flanders Community Center at 9:50 a.m. Wear a bathing suit and bring a towel.
