A big round of applause for Christian Padavan! He made it to the New York Mets Anthem Search Finals on March 23, where he competed for the opportunity to sing the national anthem just prior to a 2011 Mets game at Citi Field. Out of 250 contestants, Christian made the final 50. Way to go!
Beverly Livernoche has her “Up Close and Personal” portraits from the “Gotcha” series on display this month in the first and second floor hallways of Southampton Town Hall, located on Hampton Road in Southampton. Stop in and see if you can recognize some familiar faces.
Another local artist, Mike Meehan, has his oil and watercolor paintings on exhibit at the Hampton Bays Public Library on Ponquogue Avenue. Mr. Meehan’s landscapes and seascapes capture many picturesque East End scenes.
Also, the library is offering one of its popular “Do Your Own Thing” bus trips into New York City on Wednesday, April 13. The McCarney Tours bus will depart from St. Rosalie’s parking lot at 9:30 a.m. and pick up for the return trip back to Hampton Bays at 6 p.m. Nonrefundable tickets are $23. $5 Bag Sale: The Hampton Bays United Methodist Church Thrift Shop is having a $5 bag sale tomorrow, Friday, April 1, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. All proceeds from the sale will go to the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
Creative Ministries will present “The Journey, Cross and Crucifixion” on Friday, April 1, at 8 p.m., inside St. Rosalie’s Church. Experience the live dramatization of the trial of Jesus, his journey through Jerusalem and his final moments on the cross.
It’s The Word: The Hampton Bays Thespian Society will perform the musical “Grease” this weekend in the Hampton Bays High School auditorium. Show times are Friday and Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $7 in advance and they may be purchased in Room 1 at the high school. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $10 each. Senior citizens can see the show for free on Sunday.
Gayles Beauty Salon is sponsoring a “Rock for Rescue” fundraiser to benefit the Last Chance Animal Rescue Fund. The fun starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, at 230 Elm in Southampton. The Hampton Bays Rotary Club’s 27th annual Spaghetti Dinner will be held this Sunday, April 3, from noon until 9 p.m., at Villa Paul Restaurant. General admission is $17, children under the age of 12 can eat for $10, and senior citizens can eat for $12 from noon until 3 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Rotary Scholarship Fund.
The Hampton Bays Beautification Association will have its next general membership meeting on Monday, April 4, at 7 p.m., in the Hampton Bays Public Library. Southampton Town Parks and Recreation Department Superintendent Chris Bean is the scheduled guest speaker. All are welcome to attend.
Hampton Bays School District will be holding a universal lottery pre-K registration on Thursday, April 14. There is no cost for eligible children. Applicants must be residents of the school district and their children must be 4 years of age by December 1, 2011, to sign up.
