I received an email last week from FedEx saying that I had an undeliverable parcel. Well, I went into the email and clicked on the link to get a new address label and all of my saved files were corrupted. If FedEx is unable to deliver something to you, I am sure they will leave you a message at the door. Don’t open that box, Pandora!I’ll bet this lady had a fun time on her birthday when she was growing up! Happy birthday to Marion Scholz! Marion’s special day falls on Halloween, Monday, October 31.

Kindergartners in Lori Foster’s class over at Hampton Bays Elementary School celebrated Columbus Day by imagining themselves as explorers and writing about the places that they have explored in and around our hamlet. This activity enhances writing and fine motor skills while learning about American history.

Hampton Bays High School science research students seeded 42,000 clams into Shinnecock Bay on October 14. The endeavor, which connects learning to the local environment, is conducted in partnership with the Shinnecock Bay Restoration Program.

Established in 2012, the program was facilitated to help restore the water quality in the bay through a variety of partnerships. Last year, approximately 40,000 clams were seeded into the bay.

The students also partook in a clam dissection exercise exploring the anatomy and ecology of species mercenaria. This is directly tied in with the science research curriculum that educates students through college-level research skills and local science activities.

While I am on the subject of clams, the Shinnecock Bay Restoration Program is looking for volunteers to turn the “Brown Tide Blue” by helping to fill our clam sanctuaries.

The trips leave from East Quogue and are scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, October 28, at 10 a.m.; Tuesday, November 1, at 10 a.m.; and Friday, November 4, at 2 p.m. If you’d like to be involved, email christine.santora@stonybrook.edu.
