Southampton Town Police arrested a Hampton Bays man Saturday night after a three-hour standoff with police, who believed him to be armed, at a Springville Road home.
Police say they were called shortly after 8 p.m. with a report that a man was menacing another person in the house with a firearm.
When officers arrived a person outside the house told them that the man was inside and was armed.
The man and two other men refused to come out to speak with police officers and would not comply with police demands. A a Town Police crisis negotiator was brought to the house.
After three hours of communication, the man, who police have identified as Anyelo Marcelo Barenfaller, 41, exited the house but would not still not comply with police officers orders to him and attempted to flee back into the house but was tackled by officers and placed under arrest.
He proved to be unarmed and no gun was found inside the house, police said.
Barenfaller was arrested on a single misdemeanor charge of menacing in the third degree and was due to be arraigned on Sunday morning.
