Hampton Bays Elementary School students, teachers and administrators celebrated “K Day” last Thursday, November 5, in honor of their recently retired faculty member, Joseph Kolarik.
Mr. Kolarik was no stranger to the Hampton Bays School District. He attended kindergarten at the elementary school in 1959 and graduated from the high school in 1972. He began working for the school district after graduating college and stayed on for 32 years. He most recently served as the director of student services.
In celebration of his retirement, students and staffers wore T-shirts featuring the words “K Day.” Also, Superintendent Joanne Loewenthal presented Mr. Kolarik with a plaque dedicating the district’s elementary school library in his name. The plaque includes the words “Student, Teacher, Administrator and Bayman for Life.”
High school parent-teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, November 19, from 1 to 4 p.m. and again from 7 to 9 p.m., at the high school on East Argonne Road in Hampton Bays.
The high school PTSA will also meet on Thursday, November 19, at 7 p.m. That meeting will be held in the school library.
