The 2022 Hamptons Adult Hardball season kicked off on Sunday at Southampton High School with the presentation of the 2021 HAH Championship Belt to the Harbor Krakens. HAH co-founder and Southampton Brewers manager Pete Barylski handed off the inaugural season’s custom trophy to Krakens manager Tim Pilinko.

Then, it was time to play ball.

A doubleheader commenced with a rematch of the 2021 Championship — the Krakens taking on the Brewers, known last season as the South Fork Giants. The Krakens defeated the Brewers, 5-2.

“After a couple of months of indoor and outdoor practices, it was awesome to be back on the field,” Barylski said. “The baseball juices were flowing, as was the team camaraderie. We had a great day to open the season up on. Most of the rosters are full, but in baseball there’s always a need for pitching.”

The action continued following the Krakens win over the Brewers, with the debut of the East End Ospreys and return of the Sag Harbor Royals.

“It was a great day to play baseball here on the East End,” noted Jim Kinnier, HAH co-founder and Sag Harbor Royals manager. “Hamptons Adult Hardball has started its second season, and it’s going to be a great one. The Royals played the Ospreys and came out on top. Andrew Mayer started for the Royals. Jason Deland, Keeler Otero and Brian Dunkirk all hit the ball very well.”

The season continues this Sunday, May 22, with the Krakens facing the Brewers at 9 a.m., followed by the Brewers versus the Ospreys at noon. Both games will once again take place at Southampton High School.

“The league and level of competition has grown just in the first two seasons,” added Ospreys manager Michael Chiarello. “It’s exciting to be part of this, and be able to build a team of guys looking to play hard each week.”

He continued: “Every week, I’m looking forward to getting back out on the field. There’s a great group of guys on each team, that bring a fun, but competitive atmosphere every game.”
