Hans W. Pauli of Southampton died March 7, 2017. He was 75.

Born in Hemer, Germany, on October 5, 1941, he graduated from Bielefeld Business School in 1959 and went on to work as a stock trader for Dresdner Bank in Bielefeld, Germany. He met his wife, Francesca Angeretti, at Arab Bank in Zurich, Switzerland ,where they both worked. In 1970 they settled in Milan where the couple owned and operated a string of restaurant establishments. Among the more noteworthy were Bar Bisleri alla Scala di Milano, Paninoteca di Via Quadronno, Il Bar Si in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, La Cremeria di Via Dante, La Gelateria Passerini and Pasticceria Sant Ambroeus.

In 1983, Mr. Pauli opened an outpost of Sant Ambroeus in New York at 1000 Madison Avenue and never returned to Europe. For the past 25 years he has lived in Southampton, and Mr. Pauli and his wife were fixtures at the Southampton location for many years.

His passion was the restaurant business and he will be remembered fondly by the many customers and employees who came to know and love him throughout the years, survivors said.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Francesca Pauli; a daughter, Tatjana of Milan; a son, Dimitri and wife Robin of New York and Southampton; and three granddaughters, Larissa, Federica and Astrid.
