Head-Scratcher

I do not understand why powers that be insist on starting train service to the East End in Speonk [“East End Supervisors and Mayors Call for LIRR Infrasture Improvements for Commuter Connection,” 27east.com, August 19]. No one is going to drive to catch a train in Speonk unless they live in Remsenburg, or maybe Eastport. That is not where the majority, the vast majority, of traffic comes from.

If the commuter train started in Patchogue, it could pick up people from Patchogue, Bellport and Mastic/Shirley. I believe Patchogue already has a siding for other trains to pass.

It’s easy to wonder why the service would be provided to the local East End but not to those day laborers from outside the East End community. Why not do something that could make a difference?
