On Tuesday, May 16, the Parrish Art Museum received a meaningful and heartening endorsement from our community as voters approved the annual proposition for funding for the museum through a tax levy, continuing a four-decade show of support for the Parrish.
I want to extend my deep appreciation to all of the residents of the Southampton and Tuckahoe school districts who participated in the vote. The funding enables us to further expand our ability to present relevant art exhibitions, as well as public programs including concerts, talks, films, and art classes/workshops that we offer year round. We continue to look for new ways to invite and welcome everyone to be a part of the exciting work we do.
I hope that all residents and employees of both districts will sign up for our Resident Benefits program. This special membership level, launched in 2014, provides free admission to the museum as well as member discounts to many programs. In addition, we offer free admission year round for children, students, SNAP recipients, veterans and active duty military, and members of the Shinnecock Nation.
The Parrish is committed to serving all of our communities. We engage those with special needs and their caregivers through our broad education initiatives that include thoughtful programs geared to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, dementia and autism. This year, we are thrilled to offer Healing through Art, a new program in collaboration with Stony Brook Southampton Cancer Wellness center, and an Art and Literacy program in collaboration with the Children’s Museum of the East End.
Year round, we present festivals and series with community partners from regional BIPOC communities, public programs in partnership with the many cultural institutions on the East End, and free tours and hands-on activities for the youth from our school district partners.
All of these initiatives are supported by the funds awarded through the tax levy. We are truly grateful for the community’s validation of the vital role the Parrish Art Museum plays on the East End of Long Island.
