Helen Everett of Sag Harbor died on October 14. She was 93.
Born at home—because a snowstorm made the roads to Southampton Hospital impassable—on High Street on January 14, 1923, she attended St. Andrew’s School, Pierson High School and Ithaca College, after which she did graduate work at New York University and Southampton College.
Ms. Everett then taught in Canisteo, Amityville, BOCES of the First Supervisory District, and the Sag Harbor School District, retiring in 1981 after 27 years of teaching.
After her retirement, she volunteered at Southampton Hospital for 25 years and for the Dominican Sisters Family Health Service. She traveled extensively in the United States, Europe and the Middle East. Besides traveling, her favorite enjoyments were knitting, crafts, bicycling, walking and swimming. Playing cards was also a favorite, and she played canasta until recently, for more than 65 years.
Ms. Everett is survived by three children, Gayle Ratcliffe of North Haven, William Everett of Noyac and Charles Everett of New Jersey; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, David Everett, and a sister, Irene Kondratowicz.
