Helen Steffens Of Southampton Dies June 14

Helen Steffens of Southampton died on June 14, 2018. She was 87.

Mrs. Steffens was born on June 6, 1931, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Robert and Ellen Scott, who emigrated from Scotland and Ireland, respectively.

She married Richard Steffens on June 10, 1951, and they were married for nearly 55 years. They moved from Brooklyn to West Babylon, where they started a family and met so many of their lifelong friends. Eventually, they moved to Bay View Oaks in Southampton to enjoy the beach community.

For close to 40 years, Mrs. Steffens and her family celebrated many spectacular summers and holidays in their cherished Southampton home. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed entertaining, surrounded by her white hydrangeas, beautiful flowers, and family and many friends. Survivors said, she was a remarkable loving mother, wife, woman, and generous spirit. She loved a great joke, was quick to laugh, and appreciated all the beauty and love she found in her life.

Mrs. Steffens was predeceased by her husband, Richard. She is survived by her three sons, Richard (Colleen), Robert (Marie), and Paul; four grandchildren, Jennifer Natale (Anthony), Janine Rebholz (Timothy), Ashley Steffens, and Wyatt Steffens; as well as five great-grandchildren, Isabella and Olivia Natale and Timothy, Erin, and Anna Rebholz.

Visitation was June 18 and a funeral June 19 at Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Southampton Volunteer Ambulance or Christ Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Hampton Bays.
