Helen Street Aldrich of Southampton died on December 30 surrounded by her close family at the Kanas Center in Westhampton Beach. She was 73.
Ms. Aldrich was born to Hurlbut and Beulah Street on March 9, 1947. After graduating from Southampton High School, she attended Waynesburg University. After, she did some traveling, but always returned to the place that she loved, her family said.
Professionally, she was most proud of her work as a telephone operator, and a pre-kindergarten and nursery school teacher, her family said. Most recently, she worked at TJ Maxx in Bridgehampton for many years, where she was well-liked by both her coworkers and her regular customers.
Ms. Aldrich took pleasure in the simple things that life had to offer, her family noted: A perfect day for Ms. Aldrich would find her at the beach on a warm, sunny day, with a good novel in hand. In addition to reading, she loved getting together with family, doting on her cats, spending time in her garden, travel, enjoying the birds, wildlife and all the splendor nature could provide.
Ms. Aldrich was predeceased by her husband John “J.A.” Aldrich. She is survived by her son Richard Furneisen and his wife Ivette of Maryland and their daughter Beulah; her sister Irene White and her husband Merritt of Southampton; her brother Henry Street and his wife Ann of Pennsylvania; her nephew Merritt White Jr. and nieces Ruth White-Dunne, Laura G. White, Elizabeth White-Fricker, Sara and Julie Street and their families. She also leaves behind her two long time companions, felines Beau and Belle.
Funeral services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation in Hampton Bays (southamptonanimalshelter.com) in whose care her two cats have been placed.
