Helping Veterans

On August 29, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5350, Westhampton Beach, held its annual golf outing at the Vineyards Golf Club in Riverhead. It was a huge success due to a great combination of sponsorships, supporters, golfers, VFW members and volunteers, and the outstanding venue and staff at the Vineyards.

The list of all those who helped is too long to list, and we are extremely grateful that it is a long list that supports this fundraiser, so that we can continue to support our military, veterans and the youth of our community.

Our opening ceremony included a world-renowned bagpiper, Joe Brady, followed by Nicholas Gentile (Civil Air Patrol) playing the call to colors on his trumpet, and Judge Dominic Lodato, a World War II veteran and VFW member, leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance, and then Christiaan Patrick Padavan (“American Idol” and musical talent) singing our national anthem. We were then blessed with great weather for golfing and camaraderie, outstanding food and drink, and raffles and auction with items again donated and supported by local friends and businesses.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars is a true not-for-profit veterans organization in existence for over 100 years, and we are proud to be one of the many service organizations that make our community so inviting.

Thank you for your support and God bless America.
