Henry J. “Hank” Lenz died peacefully on February 11. He was 82.
He was born on April 16, 1939, in New York City to John and Erna Lenz.
Lenz grew up in Bethpage, and lived in Southampton with his wife Emmi and children. The family moved to Stuart, Florida, in 1980.
He served his country as a private in the U.S. Army based in West Germany, and worked for more than 30 years at Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage and Calverton, and later in Stuart, Florida, where he retired in 1991. He worked on the manufacture of the F-14 fighter jet and spent eight months in Iran for the company. He loved his job and was proud of the work he did, his family said. In retirement, he kept busy with odd jobs and delivering newspapers for the Stuart and Port St. Lucie News.
He is survived by his wife Emmi of Port St. Lucie; his children Fred and his wife Elizabeth of Fort Pierce, Florida, Janine Perry of Port St. Lucie, and Vanessa Keegan and her husband Tim Keegan of Sebastian, Florida; five grandchildren, Nicholas Lenz, MacKenzie Lenz, Stephanie Perry, Michael Perry, and Sabrina Keegan; and two great-grandchildren, Landon Lenz and Blake Lenz.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Erna Lenz of Southampton; and his sister, Susanne Lenz of Southampton.
He will be cremated, and the family will have a private ceremony at a future date.
The family would like to thank Lifecare Center of Port St. Lucie and Treasure Coast Hospice for their care of him in his final weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Hospice of the Treasure Coast in Port St. Lucie, or a charity of one’s choice.
