Herbert R. Pearson of Southampton died on July 22 at Southampton Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 83.
Born in New York City, he was the son of Anton Pearson and Martha Ericson Pearson, who immigrated from Sweden. He grew up in North White Plains and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in engineering.
After completing officer candidate school at Notre Dame, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy until June 1946. He worked for the General Electric Company, living mostly in Louisville, Kentucky, and retiring after 40 years. He was a member of the GE Elfun Society and a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Jane Warsen Pearson of Southampton; two brothers, Arnold Pearson of Valhalla and Robert Pearson of Illinois; three stepchildren; one grandchild; and seven nephews. His first wife, Maude Ewing Pearson of Southampton, predeceased him.
Visitation was on July 27 at Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral service was held on July 28 at the First Presbyterian Church in Southampton. Interment of ashes will be at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
