SOUTHAMPTON VILLAGE — Police in Southampton Village diffused a dramatic scene involving a disturbed person on March 20. Called to a Walnut Street location, they found a woman brandishing a knife outside her residence. Suffering what Southampton Village Police described as “altered mental status,” she dropped the weapon when asked, but spoke of setting the house on fire. Opening a window and pushing out a screen, she tried to get back into the house, but police were able to get hold of her in the window. She was ultimately transported to the hospital. Zachary Lawrence Warren, 18, of Mattituck faces a misdemeanor DWI count following a March 26 traffic stop on Flanders Road in Hampton Bays. According to Southampton Town Police, the initial stop was for speeding; the arrest came after they determined he was driving drunk.
