Hope and Dream

I have not been a fan of many of your previous left-leaning views. I’ve also sparred with some of your staff on several occasions regarding different topics.

However, this week’s editorial, “Three Problems” [September 18], was terrific and so on point.

Compromise versus “winning” is the key for me. These political parties have no mind for that. It’s usually either their way or no way.

Today’s climate of name-calling and threats and choosing a side versus talking, listening and compromising is absolutely destroying our culture. It infiltrates our family and friend discussions and relationships.

Thank you for this editorial. I personally hope that America’s media would spread that message every day, versus continuing to spread their biased news and propaganda that’s doled out on a daily basis. It would make a difference if our media stopped supporting a side and put some reasoning and compromise into their publications. Optimistically, I believe readers would be inclined to do the same.

Even if a New York Times or Washington Post or a Wall Street Journal devoted one section of their papers to an “Independent View” section that offered a modified, moderate, compromised view on the topics, it would get people to think, discuss, compare, and perhaps more often than not choose the compromise as the “winning” solution. Some for you and some for me.

Let’s hope and dream, and start doing more of that ourselves.

James Carollo
