Hope For Trees

I read the article by April Gonzales about the chestnut trees [“American Chestnut Trees Are Rare But Can Be Found In North Sea,” Residence, 27east.com, December 13]. I never knew there was such an issue with the trees.

I live in Shinnecock Hills, and I planted a chestnut tree in the late 1980s. From what I see, the tree appears to be doing well. It drops many burs with chestnuts during the summer.

I considered it a nuisance tree — but after reading your article, I don’t anymore.

If you want any of the burs and seeds during the season, you can have them. The tree may have sprouted smaller trees, but I’m not sure.

In any case, I hope a cure is found to help the trees.
