A Westhampton man is accused of stealing from the disabled residents of a local group home. Southampton Town Police say house manager Sean Haynes, 32, took money from residents’ bank accounts.
At first, police said the suspect worked for the organization Independent Group Home Living Program, but IGHL Executive Director Frank Lombardi said Mr. Haynes was fired from IGHL two years ago and worked for AHRC, the Association for Habilitation and Residential Care.
Mr. Haynes is charged with seven felony-level counts of grand larceny. Five counts of third degree grand larceny were leveled, meaning the value of the stolen item exceeds $3,000; grand larceny fourth degree is charged when the value is no more than $3,000 but exceeds $1,000. Mr. Haynes was also charged with petit larceny.
A months-long investigation into the thefts, begun in September culminated on Thursday, November 19, when Mr Haynes turned himself in to police.
