Ida Alberta Lindsay

Ida Alberta Lindsay (née Clark), formerly of Sag Harbor, died on June 13 in Norwich, Connecticut.

Born in Brooklyn on August 21, 1923, she was the first child of Beatrice Eldridge and John Thomas Clark. She lived and attended school in Brooklyn and met and married John Wesley Lindsay, a second cousin of Duke Ellington, in 1946. The couple had two children, John Wesley and Pamela Beatrice, for whom the family real estate business, JoPa Realty, was named. She was an exceptional and loving full-time mother and homemaker, as well an excellent broker and bookkeeper. She and her husband worked in harmony and were very successful, survivors said.

In 1970, the family relocated to Sag Harbor, where John died in 1974. Mrs. Lindsay was the president of an East End
social club that was started in the 1990s and many friends enjoyed the group’s annual picnic at the shore and parks. Mrs. Lindsay was an exceptional cook who enjoyed entertaining her friends and family with her culinary skills.

In Sag Harbor, she was a well known and respected realtor for more than 40 years, building a business based solely on referrals.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela; her sister Joan; and a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives, as well as many friends. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two younger brothers, John Thomas (Buster) and Edward Francis; and her son, Wesley.

Funeral arrangements were private.
