Ida Alberta Lindsay
Ida Alberta Lindsay, née Clark, died on Wednesday, June 13, in Norwich, Connecticut. She was 88.
Born in Brooklyn on August 21, 1923, she was the first child of Beatrice Eldridge and John Thomas Clark, both of whom predeceased her. She attended school in Brooklyn and married John Wesley Lindsay, a second cousin of Duke Ellington, in 1946. The couple ran a family real estate brokerage in Brooklyn called JoPa, named for her son and daughter, John and Pamela. She was an exceptional and loving mother and homemaker, survivors said, as well as an excellent real estate broker and bookkeeper. In 1971, the family moved to Sag Harbor, where Mr. Lindsay died in 1974.
In Sag Harbor, Ms. Lindsay was a well-known realtor for more than 40 years.
In addition to her husband, Ms. Lindsay was predeceased by her son, John Wesley; two brothers, John Thomas, known as “Buster,” and Edward Francis. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela; a sister, Joan; and many nephews, nieces and friends.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor. A funeral Mass was held on June 23 at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, also in Sag Harbor. Interment followed at Oakland Cemetery.
