Your newspaper published an important letter in the August 3 edition that I hope members of our local governments will read and heed. It is titled “Saving Lives,” by Jeff Tannenbaum of Katonah.
Mr. Tannenbaum succinctly outlines the safety measures that are critically needed on our East End roads. This is particularly and obviously true here in Bridgehampton, which has become the “speed through” village of the East End, compromising the quality of life we all have a right to and actually endangering those lives.
Unfortunately, as Mr. Tannenbaum mentions, another terrible accident has occurred here, this time on Ocean Road. Our local officials must take steps to mitigate the increased danger posed by the increased usage of our so-called “side” and “back” roads, which are now used as high-speed thoroughfares and truck routes, running through neighborhoods not designed for such use.
Mr. Tannenbaum cites the problems and offers solutions. I urge everyone to read his letter.
