On behalf of the Southampton Town Aquatics & Recreation Corporation Board, I wish to thank the Southampton Town Board and all the community members who demonstrated support for the STAR AquaCenter through speaking and letter writing.
The unanimous vote of the Town Board to clarify the Community Preservation Fund language was an important step in building an aquatic facility in a central location that will make health and wellness activities more accessible to all members of our coastal community.
STAR Corp. remains committed to seeing this project through to completion by assuring its financial and environmental sustainability into the future. We are hoping that the words of those who spoke will resonate in the community to inspire those who can give to do so now with a legacy gift that will make this long overdue, critical facility a reality.
As Dr. Dan Crough, an emergency room doctor, stated at one of the hearings, the Town of Southampton lost more children to drowning and near-drowning than neighboring towns
