Using pins, fabric and sewing machines, Kathleen Ciancio’s seventh and eighth grade family and consumer sciences students at Westhampton Beach Middle School put their sewing skills into practice and learned how to stitch their own face masks. After mastering mask making, the students plan to sew more for those in need.

Youth Bureau Has Programs Coming Up

The Town of Southampton Youth Bureau has two exciting programs planned for local children this month. Dance With Project LEAP In partnership with the Peconic Ballet Foundation, Dance with Project LEAP (Learn, Empower, Achieve, Perform) is a fun ballet program for youth ages 7 to 9. Classes begin Thursday, November 6, and will meet on most Thursdays through May 30. Professional instructors will guide participants through ballet fundamentals while fostering fitness, self-confidence, creativity, and teamwork. No prior dance experience is required. CMEE To Host Art Opening

The Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE) will host an art opening reception with CITYarts on Saturday, November 15, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event celebrates CITYarts’ Pieces for Peace project, which invites young people from around the world to create art reflecting their vision of peace. To date, more than 12,000 artworks have been collected from 126 countries across six continents, and a selection will be on display at CMEE during the opening and throughout the fall exhibition. Southampton Artists Show Will Benefit Heart of the Hamptons

The Southampton Artists Association will host a reception and art exhibit to benefit Heart of the Hamptons on Sunday, November 2, at the Southampton Cultural Center. Last year, the Southampton Artists Association raised enough money to provide more than 2,500 meals through Heart of the Hamptons, which provides a safety net of food and other vital services to over 4,500 local residents in need. This year 600,000 meals have been distributed. The Southampton Artists Association members are offering 10-inch-by-10-inch works of art to be sold at $200 each. State Parks To Offer Nature Hikes

The State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation has released its list of night owl hikes and seal observation hikes. For the owl hikes, a state park naturalist will guide visitors in the woods to listen for owls and other night life. The location of each hike may vary. Wear clothing appropriate for the weather and comfortable shoes for hiking. Be prepared to hike without lights.
