Insane Risk

It’s almost impossible to believe that the state and town continue to allow the hunting of wildlife — especially with guns — in this very developed part of Long Island. The killing of a deer at the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Refuge by a “lost hunter” last week [“Hunter Shoots Deer On The Grounds Of Wildlife Rescue Center in Hampton Bays,” 27east.com, January 11] is a reminder just how dangerous it is to allow hunting in this very populated area of Long Island.

Every weekend dawn during hunting season brings the harrowing sound of gunshots and frantic animals trying to escape slaughter. It is not only cruel, it’s an insane risk to humans in this increasingly populated area.
