To letter writer Amy Paradise: What a novel idea: a respectful invitation to discuss points of view that, on the face of it, have broad differences [“Look Me Up,” Letters, July 31]. I accept, at your convenience, in person or by Facetime. It is better face to face, in my opinion.
Too much invective has destroyed useful debate. I have personally been canceled for nothing more than having a different point of view. That is too often how politics have infected otherwise regular Americans with an anger that puts at risk friendships, let alone conversation. I’m sure many families have issues that internally devastate their harmony.
Disagreeing doesn’t have to always be disagreeable. It’s no secret that you can demonize a stranger a lot easier than someone better known — so let’s not be strangers, Ms. Paradise.
