Irving Goodrich Bailey Dies At 99

Irving “Irv” Goodrich Bailey of North Carolina, and formerly of Westhampton, died on Tuesday, August 30. He was 99.

Mr. Bailey was born in Walton, New York on June 12, 1912, to Edward Charles Bailey and Edith Seeley Goodrich Bailey. He was a former restaurant and motel owner in Westhampton—
he and his wife, Irene, were the co-owners of Bailey’s Motel until 1984 when their sons assumed 
management of the business. Mr. Bailey moved to Washington, North Carolina in June 
2004.

Mr. Bailey is survived by two sons, Brian Everett Bailey of Manhattan, Edward David Bailey 
of North Carolina; and a sister, Dorothy Simpson of Texas. His wife, Irene, died in 2000. They had been married since 1938. 
He was also predeceased by eight sisters and two brothers.

A memorial service was held in Washington, North Carolina, on Friday, September 2, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory. A 
burial service was held on Thursday, September 8, at Westhampton Cemetery.

The Southampton Town Board last week hurriedly adopted a change of zone affecting properties along Montauk Highway, or Main Street, bordering downtown Hampton Bays. The lawmakers said it was an effort to protect the hamlet from large commercial developments in the corridor. The move also effectively extinguished a proposal by Mottz Green Grocer to build a cannabis dispensary in the former North Fork Bank building next to the Carvel store in the corridor.
