Jack Daniel Capone of Hampton Bays died on July 25, 2019, in Southampton. He was 95.

Born in the Bronx, his family moved to Hampton Bays when he was about 1 year old.

Mr. Capone was a past chief of the Hampton Bays Fire Department, past assistant secretary to the Hampton Bays Board of Fire Commissioners, assisting Secretary Howard Bussanih, who was bedridden. He was past president of the Southampton, East Hampton, Shelter Island Towns Fire Chiefs Association, past president of the Hampton Bays High School Alumni Association, and past president of the Hampton Bays Lions Club. He served on the Hampton Bays Board of Education and the Southampton Town Council. He was an inactive member of both the Hand-Aldrich Post of the American Legion and the Dunes Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Capone was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II, serving 18 months in Europe.

With his father and brothers, he constructed or remodeled over 1,500 residential and commercial buildings in the towns of Southampton, East Hampton, Riverhead and Southold.

A strong supporter of the silent majority of residents of Hampton Bays, he wrote may letters to The Press and Independent criticizing the vocal minority who wanted complete changes in Hampton Bays.

He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Rosemarie; his parents Mary and Daniel; and his brothers, Daniel, Andrew and Anthony. He is survived by his son, John; sisters, Josephine and Theresa; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A firematic service will be held at 7:30 p.m., followed by an American Legion service.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Rosalie’s Church in Hampton Bays on Tuesday, July 30, at 10:30 a.m. He will be interred at Calverton National Cemetery following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hampton Bays Volunteer and Exempt Firemen’s Association would be appreciated by the family.
