James Thomas Allen Jr. passed away on March 23, 2021, in Portland, Oregon, with two of his sisters, one brother and five of his nephews by his side.

Mr. Allen was born March 11, 1955, in Brooklyn to James T. Allen and Dorothy (Craddock) Allen. Formerly of 22 Sunset Road in North Haven, he attended Pierson High School.

As a young adult, Mr. Allen worked as a cook. He served in the U.S. Army from 1973 to 1976, which included some time stationed in Germany. He had a great love of Germany and the German culture. He traveled to Germany as often as he could and even learned to speak German. He had an associate degree in law enforcement and was employed as a police officer in several departments over the years and worked as a security guard up until 2018.

Mr. Allen was predeceased by his parents: James T Allen (January 1997); Dorothy H. (Craddock) Allen (January 2012); and sisters: Monica Allen (September 1961); Barbara J. Keiser (April 1994).

He is survived by his siblings: Mildred A. Montaldo of Wilmington, North Carolina; Kathy E. Allen of Bozeman, Montana; Marion E. Abler of Forestville, California; Timothy C. Allen of Leland, North Carolina; Thomas M. Allen of Aurora, Colorado; and several nephews and nieces.

Mr. Allen’s ashes will be spread in the mountains of Idaho at a date yet to be determined.

The Southampton Town Board last week hurriedly adopted a change of zone affecting properties along Montauk Highway, or Main Street, bordering downtown Hampton Bays. The lawmakers said it was an effort to protect the hamlet from large commercial developments in the corridor.
