Jane H. Sabitus

Jane H. Sabitus of Southampton and Port Jefferson died on September 30 at the Westhampton Care Center. She was 82.

Born on November 10, 1930, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Harriet and William Heinz, she attended and graduated from Westminster College with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. A stay-at-home mother raising three children, she was active in the Presbyterian Church in Port Jefferson, where she was also a church elder. She devoted many hours to church functions and fundraising.

Ms. Sabitus was an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling. Survivors said her deepest affections were for her four grandchildren, Megan, Geary, Haley and Grace, who knew her as Granny Jane. They said she will be remembered most for her kindness and caring for those around her.

In addition to her grandchildren, she is survived by three children, William Sabitus, Scott Sabitus and Barbara Gubbins and her husband Justin. She was predeceased by a brother, William F. Heinz.

The family received friends on October 2 at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton where a parish prayer service was officiated by the Reverend Peter Larsen. A graveside service was held on Wednesday, October 3, at Fair Mount Cemetery in Chatham, New Jersey.
