Janice Sellars Pierce, formerly of Manhasset and Southampton, and Jensen Beach, Florida, died May 22. She was 89.
Born October 16, 1926, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to George Booth Sellars Jr. and Melda Lacaillade Sellars, she was married for 63 years to Edward Thomas Pierce, who predeceased her last year. She devoted her life to her big family of seven children.
She is survived by sons, Roger and wife Fran Mele of North Carolina, Stevan of Sayville, Jeffrey and wife Barbara Brady of Manhasset; daughters, Daphne and husband “Skip” Cannata of Rhode Island, Holly and husband Rich Browne of Pennsylvania, Cynthia, who was predeceased by her husband Joe McGuinness earlier this year, of New City, and Deidra and husband Chris Maleno of Manhasset; 20 grandchildren, Erin and Matt Cannata, Tom and Marie Pierce, Michael Pierce, Katie and Chris Wootton, Kevin, Dan, Eileen, Tim, Brendan, Michael, Ryan Browne, Megan, Patrick, Conor McGuinness and Max, Alex and Megan Maleno.
She was predeceased by a son, Edward Jr. at age one month; and by three sisters, Marguerite Praetz, Melda Swain and Dorothy Chalfant.
Visitation was held May 26 at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
A funeral Mass was held at the Basilica of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton, followed by interment at the church cemetery.
