Janine 'Nina' Marie Strong Of East Hampton Dies January 2

Janine “Nina” Marie Strong died from multiple symptom atrophy at home in East Hampton on January 2. She was 59.

Ms. Strong was born on June 5, 1956, in Southampton to Bill and Hazel McNamara; she was one of seven children. She graduated from Southampton High School in 1974 and married Tom Strong, her high school sweetheart, in 1976. The two traveled across the country, and briefly lived in Colorado while Tom completed schooling. Returning back to the East End, the couple started a family and settled in East Hampton.

Ms. Strong worked as a dental assistant at the office of Gerald Sexton DDS from 1987 until Dr. Sexton’s retirement in 1999. That same year, she began employment with Michael Edwards DDS, where she worked until her health forced her retirement. Survivors said she took great pride in her work and loved all “her” patients as if they were family. They describe her has kind, loving, and said she always had a smile on her face.

She and her husband loved to travel and did so frequently. They were fortunate enough to have seen many places around the world, but spending time with family was a priority.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Tom Strong Jr. and wife Jeanie of East Hampton and Britni Strong-Swartz and husband Nic Swartz of Grand Cayman; grandchildren, Jake and Casey Strong of East Hampton and Dirk Swartz of Grand Cayman; brothers, Jim McNamara and wife Chris of Sag Harbor, Dan McNamara and wife Denyse of Water Mill, and Terry McNamara and wife Denise of Southampton; sister, Donna Andreassi and husband J. of Water Mill; and sisters-in-law Stephanie McNamara of Southampton and Caroline McNamara of Pittsford. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Gary McNamara and Mick McNamara.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, January 9, from 1 to 5 p.m. Details are available through the family.
