Jean Claire Ryerson Krajewski, formerly of Sag Harbor, died on July 21, surrounded by her family while under the care of Community Hospice, located in downtown Baptist Hospital, in Jacksonville, Florida. She was 76.

She was born in Rosalyn on October 29, 1947. She was the daughter of Margery and Edmund Ryerson of New Hyde Park. After marriage to John Thomas Krajewski of Sag Harbor in 1973, the couple resided in Sag Harbor, while she worked in the coronary care unit of Southampton Hospital.

In 1984, they moved to Marshfield, Vermont, where they owned and managed the Marshfield Inn and Motel for the next 21 years.

She became a registered nurse at the age of 20. She graduated with an associate degree in nursing from Nassau Community College. Additionally, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, Summa Cum Laude, in 1995 from Norwich University in Vermont, while being honored with the Spirit of Nursing Award. In 1999, she obtained her Master of Science degree (nurse practitioner track), from the University of Vermont.

She had a lifelong love of nursing and eagerly worked in many facets and settings. These included ICU nurse at Memorial Sloan Kettering in Manhattan; nursing at North Shore Hospital in Manhasset; Saint Francis Hospital in Roslyn; Albany Medical Center in Albany; New York Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin, Vermont; and Community Hospice of Northeast Florida on Amelia Island/Jacksonville, Florida.

Her lifelong passion was her family. She was very active, whether traveling abroad, walking, playing tennis, or riding horses. In addition, she enjoyed baking, reading, and her Norwegian heritage, especially visits abroad. She also loved the ocean, and the Green and Adirondack mountains.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, John Krajewski; and two daughters, Jacquelyn Krajewski of Fernandina Beach, and Ashley Sobolewski, as well as her son-in-law, Brian Sobolewski, and grandchildren Elijah and Judah Sobolewski, of Jacksonville; and her brother Charles Ryerson of Lyndonville, Vermont.

A Celebration of Life was held at Living Waters in Fernandina Beach, Florida, with pastors Rob and Christie Goyette. Her legacy of love, kindness, compassion, and wisdom live on through those she loves and the many lives she has touched, her family said.

Come and Tell Us

When Tim Bishop was our congressman, he held numerous town hall meetings with his constituents. They were raucous affairs. Those were the days of the Tea Party, and its members were outraged that the federal government was expanding health care insurance to millions of Americans. And they let Congressman Bishop know it. Usually loudly and sometimes rudely. They seemed unmoved that thousands of their fellow Americans were being driven to bankruptcy by medical debt. They were unconcerned that thousands were dying prematurely due to their lack of access to affordable health care. Many I spoke to seemed more worried that ... by Staff Writer

A Shared Past

American history is beneath your feet, in archaeological sites of all sizes across Long Island. Such sites represent a cultural snapshot, an opportunity to stop for a moment and contemplate the generations that stood on that same ground, leaving not only their material footprint behind but also the convictions that affect our culture today. These places hold, within their parameters, a moment in time. Few of us, in Sag Harbor now, experience a shared past, having come from all parts of the world, traditions and societies; yet, choosing to be here, we now share a culture. Car Found

I would like to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to the police department of Sag Harbor and the traffic control officers. I needed to get to the post office and had forgotten my own golden rule to never leave home during peak summer months. The traffic was so intense, in fact, like midtown Manhattan, and it took 45 minutes of searching to even find a parking spot. I rejoiced to find any space at all — but after my errands couldn’t remember where that spot was. It was the worst day to be stranded in the 95-plus-degree heat wave, ... by Staff Writer
