Jean Marie Dodici of East Hampton died on December 7. She was 66.
According to her family, she was an amazing mom to Michael Pat Abiuso Jr. (and her dog, the infamous Mr. Magoo), a beloved wife to Michael Gerard Kelley, a warm, loving sister predeceased by Armond (Butch) Dodici and survived by John Dodici and Richard Dodici. She was a nurturing step-grandmother to four beautiful children, Layla Kelley-Bagg, Hazel Kelley-Bagg, Graye Kelley and Duke Kelley, a step-mother to Megan Kelley-Bagg and Brook Kelley, and she had an enormous heart that extended to the entire community.
She never closed any doors and was always up for any sort of adventure, her family said. She thrived in nature and adored birds and animals. One of her favorite places was Beach Lane — and more specifically, Beach Lane walks towards Georgica Pond to admire her favorite house (seen in the movie “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”) while scouring the sand for beautiful beach glass in the hope of catching a glimpse of a whale or dolphin’s dorsal fin along the water.
She would have full conversations with every passing puppy. She would get tangled in leashes, her hair would blow in her face and a full smile remained from ear to ear in all of her glory. She loved life, her family said, and loved these walks and would go any day at any time with her son, her husband and her friends.
She and her husband shared a daily routine of enjoying breakfast at the dining table while admiring the birds at their feeder and taking the time to learn the names of all the birds.
She not only touched the lives of friends and family alike, they said, she also left an enormous impact on many generations to come over the last 26 years as she was a highly respected teacher at the Tuckahoe School until her retirement in 2019.
“We are all so honored to have had Jean in our lives and are grateful that the sun now shines that much brighter as it embraces her warm smile and infectious laugh,” her family said. “The world will never be the same without such a beautiful human, but her legacy will remain in our hearts forever.”
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 16, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m., at Yardley & Pino Funeral home in Sag Harbor.
In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations to an organization of choice.
