Jean W. Tuttle of Eastport died on February 15, 2020. She was 93.

Mrs. Tuttle was born October 4, 1926, on Brushy Neck Lane in Speonk to S. Leroy and Georgianna (Robinson) Wilcox. Her father was the owner/operator of the Oceanic Duck Farm in Speonk, a naturalist and ornithologist. Her mother was a homemaker with numerous family members nearby. Much of Mrs. Tuttle’s childhood revolved around the farm and the present Eastport Bible Church.

She graduated salutatorian from Westhampton Beach High School in 1944 and two years later married Emory Tuttle from Eastport, whom she met through farming and church. Over the following years she gave birth to David, Mark, and Nathan, and thus began her legacy as a faithful influencer, both at home and with her church family, survivors said.

In a caring and purposeful manner, she kept the home operating efficiently. She also helped her husband at Lonesome Pine Duck Farm (South Bay Avenue in Eastport) for 42 years. She was creative and industrious, an avid baker, and had a keen interest in local history.

As a quiet, caring, faithful servant of God, she served many through the ministry of Eastport Bible Church by teaching Sunday School, vacation Bible school, serving as a steward, helping with building expansion ideas, hosting Bible studies, supporting mission causes around the world, and daily praying for family and ministry.

Mrs. Tuttle is survived by her three children, David (Lorin) Tuttle of Pennsylvania, Mark (Donna) Tuttle of Pennsylvania, and Nathan (Brenda) Tuttle of Eastport; eight grandchildren, Brendan, Betsey, Warner, Barrett, Sarah, Jonathan, Joshua, and Benjamin; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Emory; brother David; and sister Janice.

A funeral service will be at Eastport Bible Church on Saturday, February 22, at 10 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Eastport Bible Church’s Bridges Project.

A Case of Injustice

The recent dismissal of the indictment against Bob Terry and Terry Contracting was long overdue [“Payroll Case Against Riverhead Contractor Thrown Out,” 27east.com, December 2]. Throughout this ordeal, the only parties who fulfilled their obligations under the law were Bob Terry, his company and its employees. Terry Contracting won the job to reconstruct a marina in the Town of Brookhaven through competitive bidding, completed the work to the town’s full satisfaction in 2018, and submitted certified payrolls throughout — each accepted without objection. The company paid both skilled dock builders and unskilled laborers exactly as reflected in its bid and ... by Staff Writer

In a step toward greater transparency and public participation, I will present for vote to the Southampton Village Board a resolution that would release the draft “Preservation Studios Historic Resource Survey” to the public [“Southampton Village Denies FOIL Requests for Draft Historic District Report,” 27east.com, December 3].
