Jean “Diddy” Wouters
Jean Wouters of Hampton Bays, known affectionately to friends and family as “Diddy,” died on August 16 at Southampton Hospital. She was 76.
Mrs. Wouters was born in Bridgehampton to Alex Kozowski and Bernice Roy. She married Charles L. Wouters Sr. and the couple raised their family in Hampton Bays.
She worked as a cashier for several years at Thompson’s Foodtown, Key Food, the Coast Guard Commissary, and most recently at Gabreski Airport in Westhampton.
Friends and family this week recalled her close bond with the late Cal Carpenter, who worked as her packer—and her packer exclusively—in the grocery store for many years. The duo will be fondly remembered by many of the store’s shoppers, family members said.
She is survived by her husband, Charles L. Wouters Sr. of Hampton Bays; three daughters, Sharon Abbondondelo of East Quogue, Debra Armentano and her husband Thomas of Florida, and Laurie Conforti and her husband Wayne of Riverhead; a son, Charles (Chuck) Wouters Jr. of East Quogue; a brother, Paul Kaye of Maryland; 10 grandchildren, Michelle, Kevin, Kimberly, Kristen, Danielle, Jonathan, Christopher, Justin, Kyle and Wayne Jr.; and nine great-grandchildren, Renee, Aaron, Robert Jr., Kody , Michael, Jeremiah, Jamari , Sophia and Braden.
Funeral services were held on August 18 at J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. Cremation followed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Center Moriches.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance, 18 Ponquogue Avenue, Hampton Bays, NY 11946 would be appreciated by the family.
