Jeanne W Abbott dies at 79

Jeanne W. Abbott of Hampton Bays and formerly of Kinnelon, New Jersey, died in her home on April 15. She was 79.

Born in Jamaica, Queens, on May 29, 1930, she grew up in Rockville Centre and graduated from Southside High School before going on to graduate from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.

In 1954, she married W. Lee Abbott and the couple lived in 
New York City. Once their family began to grow, they relocated to Darien, Connecticut. The couple moved to Kinnelon, New Jersey, and then retired to Hampton Bays in 1986.

She earned a master’s degree in theological studies from Drew University in New Jersey and went on to serve as a eucharistic minister at the Church of St. Mary in Hampton Bays.

A 10-year member of the board of trustees of the Hampton Bays Library, she was a former president of the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons.

Mrs. Abbott is survived by a son, Douglas L. Abbott and his wife Marcela of Coram; two daughters, Sharon Zuschlag and her husband Dirk of Michigan and Susan A. McKenna and her husband David of Virginia; and six grandchildren, Rachel W. McKenna, Lee Anne McKenna, Mitchell D. McKenna, Jeffrey D. Zuschlag, Mark A. Zuschlag and Alexandra L. Abbott.

Her husband, W. Lee Abbott, and a brother, Donald Walton, predeceased her.

The family will hold a memorial service on Saturday, April 24, at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary on Ponquogue Avenue in Hampton Bays.
