Jeannette M. (née Phillips) White of Elberta, Alabama, formerly of East Quogue, died Tuesday, April 14. She was 85.
Born on May 21, 1923, to Fred Phillips and Effie (née Gildersleeve) Phillips, she married Lloyd W. White of East Quogue on April 16, 1944. She was a charter member of the East Quogue Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and was a longtime employee of the Aldrich Boat Yard and the Eastport Duck Packing Plant.
She and her husband were members of the East Quogue United Methodist Church, where she served as a trustee and also on various committees and boards. She was also a member of the East Quogue United Methodist Women’s group.
After many caravan tours across the country, in 1996, she and her husband moved to southern Alabama, settling in Elberta. In 1999, they helped to rebuild and reopen Morgan’s Chapel in Bon Secour, Alabama, and subsequently transferred their church membership there. Mrs. White attended church regularly with her husband and again served on various committees and attended many events at her beloved church.
In addition to her husband of 65 years, Lloyd, she is survived by four daughters, Dianne Watson-Baulch and her husband Doug of East Quogue and Florida, Lois Holley and her husband Robert of East Quogue, Lorri Epperson and her husband Jake of Virginia, and Jane White of Pennsylanvia; three grandchildren, Jennifer Watson Rosenbaum of Pennsylvania, William Watson and his wife Jennifer of Mastic Beach, and Amee Holley Mazurkiewicz and her husband Frank of East Quogue; and three great-grandchildren, Kyle and Jillian Watson, and Kaitlynn Mazurkiewicz.
She was predeceased by a brother, Murray G. Phillips; and a son-in-law, Thomas F. Watson III.
A memorial service will be held at Morgan’s Chapel in Alabama on Sunday, May 24.
