Jeannette McCreedy died at her home in Hampton Bays on January 17, 2017. She was 74. Born in Roosevelt, New York, to George Conrad and Jeannette (Leonard) Conrad), the family moved to Hampton Bays in 1953. After graduating from Hampton Bays High School, she worked briefly as an aide at the United Nations, before starting a 29-year career with the telephone company that began as an operator in the Hampton Bays office.
In 1962, she married her high school sweetheart, Brian McCreedy, and raised two daughters, Maureen and Elizabeth. She was active in the community as a member of the Hampton Bays Civic Association and the Westhampton St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, and was honored in 2000 as co-Grand Marshal of the parade.
After she and her husband retired in 1992, they opened Kara’s Sports Pub in Westhampton Beach. A popular place among locals, the couple enjoyed their time there hosting many gatherings and events and the patrons became a second family.
Traveling was a favorite pastime for the couple, and they made many visits throughout Europe and the United States. They were preparing to take a cruise in the Caribbean early last year when Brian, her husband of 53 years, died.
Mrs. McCreedy is survived by two daughters, Maureen Drew and husband Kevin, and Elizabeth Tyson and husband Carl; three grandchildren, Kara, Courtney and Carl “CJ”; three brothers, Robert, Timothy and Gregory; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Georgette.
The family received visitors on Saturday and Sunday at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays, with a burial service on Monday, January 23, at Good Ground Cemetery.
