Jeffrey Thomas Frank
Jeffrey Thomas Frank of Hampton Bays died on Saturday, November 24. He was 65.
Born April 6, 1947, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Joseph Charles Frank and Dorothy Brady Frank, he grew up in Freeport. He graduated from St. Leo’s College in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He went on to be a teacher and eventually owned a landscaping business that ignited a passion for what would become his life’s work.
In 1993, he founded The Nature Lyceum and dedicated his life to teaching organic horticulture across America and to spreading the word on the environment. Depending only on donations, he gave seminars and two-day “Green Guerrilla” classes in Westhampton and around the country, including Phoenix, Houston and Philadelphia. He shared his more than 40 years of knowledge about organic gardening.
In addition to being a noted author, he also served as a consultant for Yankee Stadium and hundreds of green industry companies, golf courses, school systems and wineries across the country on his topic of expertise.
Mr. Frank is survived by his five siblings, Michael Frank, Patrick Frank, Mary Frank Fitzgerald, Claire Frank and Jean Frank; a brother-in-law, Kevin Fitzgerald; a daughter, Jennifer Frank Kessenich and husband Mark F. Kessenich; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Mark, MaryJane and Kelly. His stepdaughter, Daphne Cafone and husband John, and their children, John and Christopher, also survive him.
Visitation will be at R.J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on Thursday, November 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 30, at 10 a.m. at 230 Elm in Southampton.
